Blog #4

Summer of 2014 was very busy, lots of things happened all around the world. Some highlights are:

The Ebola outbreak in Africa threatens thousands of lives this summer. Ebola is a disease spread by bodily fluids. May 26th was the first confirmed case in Sierra Leone, but in the close quarters and unhygienic conditions of rural African communities, Ebola spreads like wildfire to neighboring countries. 

This is newsworthy because of proximity and timeliness. People what to know when and where this outbreak is occurring.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are now married! Having been engaged since April 2012, the couple finally tied the knot on Saturday, August 23rd in Chateau Miraval, France. Their six children were in the wedding throwing flower petals, or bearing rings. The couple said they were in no rush to be married but were just waiting for the right time. 

This is newsworthy because Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are prominent figures.

Michael Brown, a black, 18 year old resident of Ferguson, Missouri was shot dead by white Ferguson Policemen on August 2nd 2014. Community members and even those from neighboring towns gathered on protest, searching for answers. Reports say Michael Brown was unarmed and rioting commenced because of the controversial injustice served. 

This is newsworthy because of the conflict between the protesters and police.

Ray Rice, the running back for the Baltimore Ravens reportedly punched his wife in an elevator. Early February Rice knocked his wife unconscious in a casino elevator in New Jersey. In July, he comes out saying that it was a the biggest mistake of his life.  The NFL suspended him from two games as a punishment. 

This is newsworthy because Ray Rice is a prominent person in the world of football.

A Malaysian plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine July 10th 2014. The plane was carrying 298 passengers, and 295 were reported dead. The Ukraine government denied responsibility for causing the aircraft to crash. President of Russia Vladimir Putin, said the plane would not have been brought down because the plane was flying in a war zone. 

This is newsworthy because of the human interest and conflict because of the war a possible terrorist threats.
